Lang Lee, The Volunteers lead the nominations for this year's KMAs
The Korean Music Awards (한국대중음악상) have announced their nominations for this year's awards. Many of Korea's top independent artists have been chosen in various categories. We’ve broken down some of our highlights.
Most prominently featured is Lang Lee. The highly-celebrated folk musician, author, and filmmaker has been nominated for several awards, including Best Song, Best Album and Best Artist. Lang Lee has been gaining a great deal of attention for her 2021 album, There is a Wolf.
Alternative rock band, The Volunteers have also been nominated for Best Artist. Fronted by Baek Yerin, the band have been one of the breakout performers of the last year.
Every year, the KMAs honour one album from various genres, and this year's choices feature some quality artists.
Soumbalgwang and Pakk have both been nominated for Best Rock Album. Soumbalgwang also picked up a nomination for best Best Rock Single, alongside Badlamb, who were also included.
The Volunteers pick up another double as they're nominated for Best Modern Rock Song and Album. The awesome Bosudongcooler got nominated for Best Modern Rock Album, and Meaningful Stone earned a fully-deserved nomination in the Best Modern Rock Single catergory for Dancing in the Rain.
And in the electronic music category, experimental producer NET GALA gets a nomination for her album, and our absolute favourite, Kirara, receives a best single nomination for HRT
Pioneering rock band Devils will be receiving a special achievment award for their contribution to Korean music.
