The Music That Made Me - SUCOZY
As part of a new series, someone will be sharing their life through the music that shaped them. This week, we talked to up-and-coming electro pop singer/producer SUCOZY.
With sucozy’s sultry city-pop-inspired music comes some smooth-as-all-hell grooves and mood-setting lyrics. Here, he tells us about the soundtrack of his life.
A song that reminds me of my childhood
Snail - Panic
During elementary school, I used to ride my bicycle to school, and this song was something I listened to a lot during that time. I don't know how or where I first heard it, but whenever I hear this song, it brings back memories of riding my bike on the way to school.
The album that made me want to make music
Dawn FM - The Weeknd
More precisely, this album made me think not just about creating music but about making a full-length album. From the first track to the last, the album feels like listening to a 50-minute radio show, especially the transition from track 3 to track 4, which makes me strongly think, "I should create a continuous full-length album someday."
The first song I fell in love with
Something About Us - Daft Punk
Possibly the first electronic song I ever loved. When I first heard it, I thought, 'I can't believe there's a song this good!' and listened to it continuously for days. The amazing bassline, drum rhythm, and the subtle combination of EP and vocals became the catalyst for my interest in electronic music.
The song I want to be played at my funeral
Piano Man - Billy Joel
The first song that made me want to play the piano and sing. I think it perfectly captures the charm of old pop music. I hope my funeral doesn't have a sad or gloomy atmosphere but rather feels like a festival, with "Piano Man" playing in the background.
The song I will never get bored of
Remind Me – Röyksopp
I discovered this song about 15 years ago, and I still listen to it. The lyrics "a woman holds her tongue, knowing silence will speak for her" are memorable. The current world is a place where the loud minority silences the majority. Sometimes, I hope that silence can exert an even stronger force.
A song I wish I had written
Complicated/Overrated – The Millennial Club
TMC is one of the teams that perfectly embodies the music I aspire to create. The accumulation of great patterns creates a fantastic instrumental, a sophisticated melody, and a smooth guitar solo at the end. I think anyone would enjoy this kind of music. There are many other great songs by TMC, so be sure to check them out!
A song that makes me cry
Bravo, My Life! - Spring
The lyrics "Bravo Bravo my life, for the courage you've shown in your life so far" always bring tears to my eyes. It's a song that supports the uncertainty we all feel in our lives. It tells the story that the path I'm on is not wrong. Actually, even writing this now brings tears to my eyes lol.
One song that you have made that has significant emotional meaning
Disappear – sucozy
The third track from my first EP released in 2023. It's a response to someone who said, "I'm afraid you might disappear someday." I often respond to people with music when I find it challenging to express myself verbally. Strangely, every time, the other person understands that it's a message meant for them. I hope this song helps you understand my feelings.
