Another rookie artist who impressed us this year is folk-pop two-piece Pylat, who mix jazz and R'n'B into their sound. Nightmare is an atmospheric song and, like all of their material, is elevated by the Pylat's beautiful voice.
Eagle-eyed readers might recognise guitar journeyman Honnip from his work with several other acts including PARKJIWOO, Seoul Electric Band and eundohee. He occasionally puts out solo music, and when he does, it's always wonderful. Blues-tinged and atmospheric Dogs might be the best thing he has ever done.
At the very end of last year, Gwon.U took us by surprise with Grab, a 5-song EP with an incredible amount of variety. Insanely catchy, disco-inspired I Can't Make You Love Me demonstrates that Gwon.U is a songwriting talent full of potential and one to watch for the future.
A firm Platform favourite, eundohee spent most of 2022 working on a brand new album out in the new year. Even so, she still managed to find the time to release two breathy-vocal heavy singles. One of them is Belief, a song that channels eundohee's simple-yet-effective approach to songwriting.
Mysterious electro-jazz producer An0 creates sweeping soundscapes that reflect his deeply felt passion for nature. His excellent recent album, Echosystem, is well worth a listen and features Lost cause with a great feature from Yohna.
This aptly titled layer-heavy tropical jam is taken from the DJ-duo's incredible second album, ashbalkum. With exceptionally dense production and a unique approach to rhythm textures, Coconut Water is one of the sharpest songs of the year.
A twosome of folk music legends coming up, starting with enigmatic performer Kim Sawol. Her famously hushed vocals are here as she beautifully whispers the song's words, making a delicate and intimate track.
As a boy who exclusively wears white trainers and has "bad, bad eyesight," this song makes me feel seen. It's also an incredibly cozy song from folk music icon Big Baby Driver that comes with a sitar solo and some enchantingly whispy vocals.
New music from Western Kite is always a treat, and with her recent EP, hi love, she maintains the sweet and stylish pop sound she is known for. Due to an excellent vocal performance and infectious melody, our pick is 심.장.박.동.my heart.
On last year's list, Dajung selected JNKYRD's JV Soccer as her favourite track. So there's a certain kind of poetry to having her completely reworked version of the song on the list now.
