7 events happening in Seoul this week that we think look cool | 24th Sept-30th Sept

Any art lovers with the post-Chuseok blues are in for a treat as there are absolutely tonnes of art events happening this week. There are a bunch of really cool exhibitions closing so if you’re looking to get out of the house and take in some interesting ideas, now is the time.

This week sees a bit less live music than we had over the previous seven days. There are, however, a few great DJ nights coming up this week.

Friday 24th September

The Lethal Beasts of a Pulsating Jungle.

As well as hosting a bunch of fun nights with good DJs, Haebangchon bar Living Room also puts on the occasional art exhibition. This Friday they're going to launch a new one called The Lethal Beasts of a Pulsating Jungle.

The display will include a series of paintings based on the history of welding. The bar is starting early for it, with doors opening at 5pm.

Groove Diggers

This Saturday, our buddies over at Welcome Records will be hosting the launch of a mixed-tape by two local DJs.

As part of the release party, DJs Midasbeats and Noimnot will be doing sets at the venue, and if you like the music, you can pick up a copy of their tape!

The record store recently opened a cafe on their first floor, and this is as good an opportunity as any to check it out.

There are a bunch of interesting exhibitions wrapping up this weekend, so it's as good a time as any for an art binge.

One of them is a painting exhibition by abstract artist Eunsil Lee. The work of Lee has been featured in shows all over the world, so it's a great chance to see her paintings up close.

Homo sapiens: Evolution ∞ Relationships & Future? Closing

The National Museum of Korea has worked with the Department of Archeology and History to put on a very interesting exhibition.

The show examines the unexaggerated role of homo sapiens and our perspective of ourselves. In many ways, our view of ourselves is often inflated, and we become divorced from our nature. Recent world events have shown the limits of human power and brought our ideas of ourselves back to reality.

This is the last chance to see the exhibition, and we recommend taking it.

Wednesday 29th September

SupaStore

Since 1993, British sculptor Sarah Stanton has been opening pop-up art markets in various locations worldwide. The pop-ups act as a piece of art themselves, blurring the lines between art and the market they exist in.

The event will feature the work of 12 British artists, including Coco Crampton, Demelza Watts and Sarah Stanton herself.

The exhibition will be open until October 22nd.
